What is the VISTA Consortium?

The VISTA Consortium (Variant Integration for Screening Therapeutic Approaches) is a partnership bringing together academic and industry collaborators to accelerate therapeutic discovery for rare genetic diseases. VISTA was established to systematically study how to find treatments for these rare diseases by repurposing existing approved drugs and dietary supplements.

VISTA combines large-scale variant phenotyping with pooled optical image-based profiling to test hundreds of disease-associated variants against hundreds of compounds in parallel. Building on the discovery of approximately 250 reproducible disease phenotypes characterized by altered protein localization and cell morphology, the consortium generates high-dimensional image data linking genetic variation to therapeutic response, creating a scalable framework for identifying candidate treatments across many rare diseases at once.
